Still here...

... just been a bit distracted lately.  My partner and I bought some land about 200 km outside Toronto.  The land comes with a charming little cabin that's in desperate need of some TLC, so we've busy trying to give it what it needs before winter rolls in.

Meaning

The eagle is very symbolic in west coast native art. According to Andrew Alexander Sinclair, it symbolizes great strength, leadership, prestige, spirit healing and creation. It also has a strong connection to peace.

I picked up this necklace before leaving the McMichael Canadian Art Collection yesterday. I thought it was the perfect accessory to wear between now and next summer's adventure, given that it hails from my ultimate destination. I can't help but feel that its symbolism is kind of fitting too.

We went to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection today and this beautiful specimen was first thing that caught my eye as we pulled into the parking lot. I couldn't resist taking a photo with it.

I also took a few seconds to peek inside and was pleased to find that it looks surprisingly roomy! Probably can't fit two people and a guitar (as my friend was quick to point out), but it should have plenty of room for everything I need on this trip. Besides, I think there's something to be said for packing light.

A modest beginning

A modest beginning

I'm not much of a writer nor am I someone who challenges the norm, but they say we should all live outside our comfort zone at least once in a while. This blog represents that time for me.

This trip is out of character for me, no question about that. As it stands now I have (almost) no idea where I'm going, I have no idea how I'm going to get there. I have a driver's license that's been gathering dust for over 6 years now. I don't know where I'm going to sleep along the way, but I know I'll have a tent. I've never camped.

It'll be a new experience in every sense of the word.

I'll get into the motivation for this out of character behavior in another post. For now, suffice it to say that I'm looking forward to what will hopefully be a very memorable chapter of my life.

I'm excited.
